Brick and Stone Repointing Repairs

The chimney sticks out like a sore thumb on top of your rooftop, exposed and completely battered up by all types of New Jersey weather conditions and fluctuating temperatures throughout it’s lifetime. Such an exposure to all elements, if left untreated, will eventually begin to deteriorate, evident by recessed mortar, loose bricks, cracked cement, vegetation growth, leaking, flue lining deterioration, and, eventually, structurally damage. Furthermore, masonry is very porous and will soak in moisture like a sponge, leading to such damage in due time. In summary, if your chimney is left untreated and not maintained, it will lead to largescale exterior and interior damage!

Thankfully, Allen Chimneys will help you fix any damage that your chimney may have incurred over the years, while also preventing future damage from occurring. This may be through repointing your chimney! The mortar joints or cement that lie in between the bricks and/or stones may require repointing repair. First, Allen Chimneys will grind out the existing mortar joints to a certain degree, in order to repoint the joint with new cement. If your chimney is made of bricks, we will apply the new cement with a concave finish. This finish is designed to prevent rainwater from sitting on the mortar but rather move the rainwater away from the joints. Next, we will apply a new, cement crown or topping on your chimney, reseal it’s flashing, and install a new, stainless steel chimney cap on top. Finally, Allen Chimneys will waterproof your entire chimney with Chimney Savers Water Repellent, in order to prevent water infiltration by sealing in the mortar.
